Goodbye 2008, Hello 2009

Wow, what a year it has been around these parts.  OHC HQ has definitely seen some things, shared some things, and just lived some things.

I had the idea for this blog for some time and started putting things into action around May-ish.  It took months because I rely on my husband for coding and website related things.  Plus, I wanted my site to work a specific way which he then had to tweak and create plugins so that it would happen.

September 1st my little site was born and it became more than I thought it would.  My original idea was to just post recipes and things I created in the kitchen.  During the months of site prep, I stumbled into the world of food blogging.  I don’t mean recipe sites, I mean food blogging.  People living healthy, real lives and enjoying it and taking pictures along the way for the rest of us to see.  And when I say “real…

Goals for 2009

I’m pretty excited to be writing up a goals post.  This is actually a first for me.  To be honest I never did goals or resolutions before.  I thought about things that would be nice to do or accomplish in the coming year but never really gave it much thought or effort.

All of that has changed.  This past year has been huge for me both personally and physically.  I’ve changed and grown into a different person but I think that’s the case for us all.  We aren’t the same person we were last year or the year before.  Change is good.

This whole food blogging journey has been a good one for me.  I stumbled into this world when I first starting putting together OHC.  I thought there must be other recipe bloggers out there and during my search I found the food blogging world.  What an impact this has made on my life.  It was exactly what I needed and…

December 31st, 2008: Breakfast and lunch

December 31st, 2008: Breakfast and lunch

Hi guys!  It’s the last day of 2008, isn’t that crazy?!  Whoa but this year flew by!  I’m currently working on my 2009 goals post so look for that soon.

Last night Scott and I watched a Pens game we taped a couple days ago.  Man I don’t know what their deal is but they have been stinking like a pile of poo.  Good lord.  I had a glass of white while we watched.

Then we moved on to watching The Maltese Falcon.  We love old black and white movies!  I had another glass of white while we watched the movie and munched on these.

In a moment of weakness at the store I bought some spicy Cheeze-Its.  And I didn’t even bother reading the ingredients until I got them home and opened the box!  Thankfully it’s not terribly horrible but still, Cheeze-Its.  Kashi I am begging you to come out with some spicy cheese crackers.  I don’t know…

December 30th, 2008: Breakfast and Dinner (?!)

December 30th, 2008: Breakfast and Dinner (?!)

Hi guys!  I’m sitting here finishing up my cocktail as I type up today’s eats!

I woke up ready to go this morning.  I was debating on eating first or running first.  I ended up eating first.  I was starting to get hungry and was pretty sure running before wouldn’t be a great experience.  I decided to make oats for breakfast since I hadn’t had them in ages.

Oh oats how I missed you!  They were so yummy and I just could not stop eating them.  Standard oats:

  • 3/4 C of vanilla soymilk
  • 1/2 C of quick oats
  • 1 mashed banana
  • Pinch salt and cinnamon

Mix-ins were cranberries, banana nut bear naked, and a spoon of dark chocolate PB.  Oh so yummy and totally hit the spot.

Had that along wtih coffee which was also very yummy this morning.  I read a few blogs and decided to get moving.

We’ve been having very warmish weather lately and I’ve only needed to wear one…

December 29th, 2008: Lunch and dinner

December 29th, 2008: Lunch and dinner

Hi guys!  To get us prepped and fueled for the day, I made us some breakfast!  Since we didn’t have Sunday breakfast yesterday, I decided we should have a proper breakfast today.

We had some cranberry waffles with maple syrup and in the middle are 2 oranges, 2 clems, 1 gala apple dressed with vanilla Oikos and maple syrup.  So good!  The orange and yogurt taste like a dreamcicle. Mmm!  I did not eat all of the waffles, 1 and a 1/4 because I mostly wanted to chow down on the fruit!

Then when Scott was finally ready we went shopping.  We went to the Eddie Bauer warehouse/outlet store (is there any other?) because we had coupons and they were having sweet deals.  1/2 off their jeans and most other pants $12.  Oh yeah and I scored big time, I got amazing deals and bought a bunch of pants!  Check it:

Clothes shopping still isn’t the most fun experience…

December 29th, 2008: Morning

December 29th, 2008: Morning

Good morning!  So far all I had was coffee and it was only okay.  Today is a big day because we are leaving the house!   We are going shopping and also running some errands.  Woo!  Mostly I’m excited about shopping because I’m hoping to find some great deals on winter clothes that are now out of season (isn’t that crazy?!). I would like some jeans and other pants that actually fit me.  And I would like some more shirts to wear.  Basically everything.

Then it will be time to come home and chill, chill.  Scott and I actually have a “business” meeting today with each other so maybe we’ll do that over dinner.  And I need to get moving and start planning his b-day.  I know we just got done with Christmas but his b-day is in February and I don’t want to get behind like I did for Christmas.  Even though his…

December 28th, 2008: Dinner

December 28th, 2008: Dinner

Hi guys!  Oh my goodness this will be the shortest post ever I think.  Well maybe my breakfast one will be even shorter.

Yesterday I did laundry and Scott decided to play some more Left 4 Dead.  So we did and it frustrated me.  I do okay but it’s the last section of the level that chaps my ass because that is where you are getting rescued and have to fend off swarms of zombies.  In the event you don’t know the game, it’s basically a first-person run and gun game.  You and three others are survivors after an infection takes over and turns people into zombies.  You are immune so the idea is to get from safe house to safe house and then finally to the rescue area to be rescued.  The game is just okay for me.  I like things that are a little more involved than just running and gunning because to me that…

December 28th, 2008: Breakfast and lunch

Hi guys!  Last night we kicked it back finishing up the extras from the movie.  I made us a little snack.

Some Peppermint Dark Chocolate fraps that I bought ages ago, and a mess of PB puffins, Kashi heart2heart, and some dark chocolate chips.  I took a few sips of the frap and wanted to spit it back out.  So gross!  It has this really nasty cough medicine aftertaste to it.  Ew, I could not drink it.

Instead I had a light cranberry fizzie.  Cranberry juice + mandarin seltzer.  Much better and I appreciated that more than the heavy frap.  So it worked out much better this way.  I thought we would be splitting the snack but Scott didn’t eat as much of it as I did.  Oops!

Around 10:30pm, I headed up to bed to read for a bit.  I was tired and it seems like forever since I’ve read in bed.  It was going on…

December 27th, 2008: Dinner

Hi guys!  Really quick post because our day was boring.   After lunch Scott wanted to keep playing Left 4 Dead to see if we could make it past the level that was giving us a hard time.  While we played we munched on fishies!

That lasted us for hours because we played for a while.  It started getting around supper time, so we took Rocks out for a quickie walk.  It was still warm out but starting to get really windy.  I think we’re supposed to have a wind storm come up tomorrow.  Ugh, I hate wind storms, no fun at all.

When we got back, I fed Rocky and got started on our dinner.  A really simple easy fish and veggies meal.

I baked the fish and seasoned it with olive oil, smoked sea salt, pepper, cayenne, garlic powder, chili powder, and soy sauce.  The veggies are a quick stir-fry-esque preparation of carrots, green beans, broccoli, onions, and…

December 27th, 2008: Breakfast and lunch

Hi guys!  We watched our movie and it was totally fantastic!  Hopefully we’ll be wrapping up the special features today which are fascinating. I was in bed by 11:30 last night, late for me because I was watching behind the scenes stuff!  Rocky let me sleep till a little after 8am and I crawled out of bed.

I took him outside and was bummed to find the weather prediction had come true, 60 some degrees outside.  YUCK!  Plus windy and humid.  Loverly.  I was hungry but wanted my run done and over with so I changed and was out the door.  I wore light running pants and a t-shirt, that’s how warm it was.  Ew.  I was a sweating fool outside.  I only 2.5 miles because I was tired and hot but I busted it and clocked in at 29 minutes.    That’s the first time I’ve been in the 20s doing that run….
